Services and Rules Service Settings for Development

This tutorial explains recommended settings for rulesservices and other services in a development environment. After finishing these steps, you will have an efficient environment to develop with USoft. Requirements: a development enviroment with USoft installed, project binder with linked database, rules service and page engine service. Please note that this is a suggestion on how to set up your development environment. Make sure that each setting fits your project and discuss changes with your team before applying them. Rules service loggingWe recommend setting the rules service log level to ERROR unless you are debugging. To change the log level, open your USoft binder, dubble click on your rules service and go to Previous, Log settings. Here you can also find the log directory.Web application URLTo find the web application URL, go to the Service Definer, find your page engine service and click on ‘browser page engine’. Best Practices for Navigating from Overview to Detail Windows

I have a data block that displays records from a specific table. Can anyone tell me how to navigate from this summary window to a more detailed information window where data can be changed?To clarify, I have a sensor summary IW window and want to move from this window to a sensor edit IW window, passing as a parameter the Pk of the current record so that the selected record can be edited.We DO NOT have a USOFT web application.

Setup a USoft database environment for dev/test/prod

This instruction is a suggestion on how to setup a environment for a USoft project. Be aware that there are many alternatives that might suit your project better. Adding a default record when a another record is inserted

Anyone here who can show me the right direction to achieve the following ? Five tips to work efficiently with USoft Studio

Last few months I have been working with USoft Studio a lot to get to understand and at the same time capture the business rules for one of our customers. Within USoft Studio, we use the Semantics for Business Vocabulary and Rules (SBVR) and standard techniques to create diagrams for object-fact modelling (SBVR diagrams), process flows (BPMN 2.0) and/or database modelling (ER diagrams). Syslog logging for audit trails - Part II

Output to external applications The earlier instructions in part I of this article enable log output of the SFW, Page engine and even the SQL operations at the application level. At this stage log data is sent out by these sources ,targeting localhost as the data destination via UDP. However, there exists no process yet locally to receive and manage the log data. To include this part we need to introduce a log collector. This also means that the localhost is serving as the log server; you could have targeted another machine as well as shown in the configuration properties of the SFW and Page Engine. After establishing the log server, aggregated logs on that server can be further used by a log visualizer.  The instructions from here on lie outside USoft scope, so we will work on setting up external applications to work towards the final use case of having a visual audit trail. NXLog We are free to choose which tool should collect the log data and so we choose nxlog community edition for

With new data breaches being discovered nowadays almost weekly, it becomes ever more important to protect your application data and keep track of which user has accessed what data and any changes he may have made.  Such a chronological record of access to and modification of data is called an audit-trail.  Audit trails are often used as an investigative tool to detect and analyze application and user behavior for data breaches before they have made such a significant impact such as the complete exposure of the entire database of the application. In a properly configured audit trail system events leading to such an exposure are monitored, and as such data breaches can be kept to a minimum impact, if proper action is taken quickly. Audit trails are commonly kept in logs called audit logs, which keep track of:  Every access and changes to sensitive data in detail. In this blog I will explain how to add new scripts and/or stylesheets to your project.File locationWhen adding the files it is important to know that these are to be placed in the ALT folder of the Web Designer publication. How to specify a port number in an OLEDB connection string

Sometimes customers do not use the default listener port for a SQL Server database server. Five things to do in Windows Designer at the start of a new developmentWindows Designer

The Windows Designer has a few defaults that cannot be changed because they would break existing applications. Some of these applications have been around for more than 25 years! Therefore, at the start of a new project I start with a few simple changes to make life easier and improve the look-and-feel of the application under development. 1. Add an accelerator to the save button in the Main MenuThe save option has no accelerator, a keyboard combination to execute a function, to save changes of application data. Normally we advise not to change items in the default menu, yet in this case it will do no harm. The best way to do so is to change the menu page "STD_FILE".
