Apache Log4j Security Vulnerability issue

Updated: 30-12-2021 17:15Over the past few weeks, you may have read the many news items concerning the major security vulnerability in the Apache Log4j 2-library. This critical vulnerability in the Apache Log4j 2-library makes remote code execution possible, which gives malicious parties the ability to remotely inject and execute arbitrary code with the rights of the java application. Because this software is widely used, the risk is severe. In fact, this vulnerability has already been assessed with a risk score of 10 (the most critical level). For more detailed information on the vulnerabilities, please refer to the CVE articles CVE-2021-44228 , CVE-2021-45046, CVE-2021-44832.  Since Sunday December 12th, we continue to follow the developments about this vulnerability in the Apache Log4j 2-library. Easily add AI and external componentsNew

We want to extend USoft’s capability to easily work with external components and extensions. The set of available OffTheShelf (github based) components will be extended to include more reusable examples. For example, think about AI algorithms or pieces of code developed in languages like Java or .NET. The previously used FTP server became an outdated solution because almost every browser did not support downloading via FTP anymore. As of now, USoft introduced the solution of our new download environment: downloads.usoft.com. Here, you can easily and secured access our software products.   Get access to your own environment! The security and authorization protocols for Identity & Access Management (IAM) and Singe Sign-On (SS) are made seamlessly possible by support for SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) and SAML2.0 (open standard for exchanging authentication and authorization data between parties). This makes it possible to record authorization attributes such as username, password and rights centrally and to automatically adopt them in the application to be developed. We are experiencing degraded database performance possibly related to the network traffic involved.

We are experiencing degraded database performance possibly related to the network traffic involved, are there settings in USoft we can use to increase our performance in this case? The *optimizationArea parameter may be useful. You can add this parameter as a command line parameter using the -xrm option or by adding the parameter via the USDIW file. More information about RDBMS performance is found in the documentation under RDBMS Performance hints :

I found a bug or technical issue, how can I report the issue?

You can report issues via multiple channels. You can e-mail us via support@usoft.com. Whenever you encounter an issue or error, we strongly recommend that you take note of the reproduction steps that lead towards the error. This will allow us to help you more effectively.When reporting the issue by e-mail, please provide us with the following information: USoft version(s) used RDBMS ,OS type and version Details of the error code or description, preferably by text. A screenshot is also helpful. Complete step by step instructions that allow us to reproduce the issue on our side. Since the upgrade we have a problem to start the USoft binder.

Since the upgrade we have a problem to start the USoft binder and the following error message is shown: The code execution cannot proceed because mfc140u.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem. Could it be that there is a problem with the registry? The mfc140u.dll is part of the Microsoft Visual  c++ 2015 redistributable. Normally it is installed along with a USoft installation. The redistributable vcredist_x86.exe / vcredist_x64.exe setup file you can also find seperately in the redist/Microsoft/ folder. For 32 bit versions of USoft , the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory is used to locate mfc140u.dll.For 64 bit versions of USoft , the C:\Windows\System32 directory is used to locate mfc140u.dll.If for some reason is missing, you may need to reinstall the Microsoft visual c++ redistributable by launching the above setup file or reinstall USoft. You can also find the currently installed Microsoft Visual  C++  via the "Apps and features" configuration page of Window

How do I upgrade between USoft versions?

Patch updates can be upgraded simply by downloading and installing the new version. Upgrading a USoft application to any other major version involves a sequential upgrade of the repository, for example going from 8.0 to 10.0: •          USoft 9.0        :           8.0 -> 9.0                                Upgrading to USoft 9•          USoft 9.1        :           8.0 -> 9.0 -> 9.1                      Upgrading to USoft 9.1•          USoft 10         :           8.0 -> 9.0 -> 9.1 -> 10         and  The upgrade process itself is equivalent along all versions, so you can upgrade your existing application using the same process of using the upgrade tool. We recommend going through the upgrade guidelines before and after upgrading about which more information is found in the above links.Notes:USoft 9 uses .NET Framework 4.5, where USoft 8 uses .NET Framework 3.5NET 4.5 is available starting from Windows Server 2008.Regarding license server software: Usoft 8 uses FlexLM

When running the USoft application via the Binder, an error related to usdora.dll is shown. How can I solve this?

the following type of error may be shown: Error message: Cannot load DLL of any version for 'usdora'. Reason(s):C:\Usd91\BIN64\usdora.dllC:\Usd91\BIN64\usdora10.dllC:\Usd91\BIN64\usdora90.dll; The specified module could not be found. > The error is caused by the Oracle client that is missing or when the incorrect version of the Oracle client is used against USoft. For example, when a 64 bits USoft installation runs against a 32 bit oracle client or vice versa. It can also occur if the path towards an Oracle client is missing in the Windows environment variables. This error can also occur after a fresh install of Oracle after which the user does not reboot the system and runs USoft immediately after the install. Installing an Oracle instant client in the BIN64 / BIN directory of USoft is a workaround for solving the error until the cause is determined.

What is USoft policy regarding product support?

It is USoft policy to actively support the last two major versions of USoft products at time of release. This also applies to RDBMS and OS support. USoft 10 is available in production and is the latest major version so USoft 9 -  the previous major release -  is supported. USoft 8.0 and older versions will not be actively supported with the release of USoft 10. This means that questions will still be answered for previous versions but should a problem result in changes being required to our software then a new fix for that version will not be automatically released.
